The nonprofit Kuikahi Mediation Center is launching a monthly brown bag lunch series from noon-1 p.m. July 23 in the conference room at HomeStreet Bank, 111 Aupuni St. in Hilo.

“With a focus on ‘Finding Solutions, Growing Peace,’ this free lunch-and-learn series will feature speakers discussing topics related to communication, dispute prevention and resolution, and transforming conflict,” said Kuikahi executive director Julie Mitchell. “We want to empower people with the information and tools they need to promote peaceful solutions at home, in the workplace and throughout our communities.”

This month’s topic is “Foreclosure Mediation: Helping Borrowers and Lenders Work it Out,” facilitated by Brian Nussbaum, Kuikahi foreclosure dispute resolution specialist.

Mitchell said to expect answers to questions such as: What exactly is foreclosure mediation, or just plain mediation for that matter? How does mediation help homeowners? How does mediation help lending institutions? And, why did the Hawaii Supreme Court order a foreclosure mediation program in the Third Circuit (Hawaii Island)?

Kuikahi’s brown bag lunch series is open to the public.
